The Idol

A wordless, live action puppet short film. Work in progress, to be completed soon. Adapted from the classical tale of Pygmalion by the Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso (Ovid).

Pygmalion is a kind of hikikomori. A devotee of the goddess of love but so disenchanted with the real women around him that he has chosen for a bachelor lifestyle. But he is also a skilful artist. In his solitude, he creates a sculpture of a woman for himself, an idol so perfect that he falls in love with it. Before long, he is treating it like a real-life lover…
